Instructors

NICHOLAS CARTHY. CONDUCTOR/MASTER CLASS PIANO. Belong among Europe’s elite conductors and regularly conducts the major orchestras and opera houses.

TROND WIKA. VIOLIN AND ARTISTIC LEADER OF THE TOPPENKURS. District Musician and educator at Vefsn culture school and the Music Department at Mosjøen High School. Has extensive experience as a musician, and is a particularly skilled educator for children and youth. Head of Helgeland Sinfonietta and concert master for Mosjøen Symphony Orchestra.

JOHANNA-FRANZISKA WIKA. PIANO. From Germany. Lecturer in music at Mosjoen high school and District Musician. Former regional musician and lecturer at Northern Norwegian Academy of Music. Head of Talent Forum Nordland, who are affiliated with The Toppen Summer Academy. Franziska are the organizer of the piano section at Toppenkurset.

Marianne Thorsen. VIOLIN. norwegian violinist based in both London and Trondheim. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music London, 1987-94.  “Outstanding Merit Prize” from Carl Flesch International Violin Competition in London, 1992 and Emily English Award 1995. She won “Concours International de Violon de Sion-Valais” in 2003. Leader of Leopold String Trio, leading violinist in the Nash Ensemble of London. Teaching at the Royal Academy of Music and NTNU Conservatory in Trondheim.

Juliet Jopling. VIOLA. Studies with Bridget Crouch and Grigori Zhislin at the Royal College of Music, London, David Takeno at Trinity College, Cambridge University, and Thomas Riebl at Mozarteum in Salzburg. She is now principal violistt at The Norwegian Opera and plays with Engegard quartet.

Terje Moe Hansen. VIOLIN. Studies in Oslo, Copenhagen and London. Debut in Oslo 1984. Tours in Europe, USA and Asia. Professor in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. His pedagogical results has given him world-wide reputation.

Arvid Engegård. VIOLIN. Studies in Trondheim, USA and Salzburg where he was concert master in Academica Camerata. Primarius with the Orlando quartet for several years. Since 2006 leading his own Engegaard quartet. Arvid has also a big career as soloist and conductor.

GUNNHILD NORDDAHL. VIOLA. From Mo i Ranas. Made her studies at the academy in Oslo and in the Netherlands. She is currently freelancing, but from fall of 2017 she will be substituting in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jan Clemens Carlsen. CELLO. born in Austria. Studies at Barratt Due music institute in Oslo, Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and Norwegian State Academy in Oslo. Has played principal cellist in several orchestras. Jan Clemens has in more periods been teaching at the Norwegian State Academy. Playing with Engegaard quartet.

TRULS WAAGØ. BASS. From Trondheim. He is a member of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. He also works as a composer.

Alex Robson. VIOLIN.  Studies at NTNU concervatory in Trondheim and Royal College of Music in London. He has had leading positions in more orchestras, like Trondheim soloists, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra a.o. Permanent member of Engegaard quartet.

ELISABETH L. TURMO. VIOLIN. From Mosjøen. Is studying at the Barratt-Due music institute in Oslo. She was recently soloist with the Arctic symphony orchestra.

ANNE RISTORCELLI. VIOLA and Chamber Music. From Nevada. After successfully completing her Master of Music, Ms. Ristorcelli joined the Reno Philharmonic and the Reno Chamber Orchestra. In 2009 she moved to Berlin to work as a freelance musician, and has performed both in orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Germany, Norway, Austria, Great Britain, and Italy.

SASKA CVIJANOVIC. FLUTE. From Serbia. Masters degree at the Music Academy in Belgrade and University of Stavanger with a major examination of both institutions. She is a member of the Vefsn-Ensemble since 2009.

Gaute Vikdal. TROMBONE. Born in Mosjøen. Since 1990 he is playing with Stavanger symphony orchestra. He is also very activ as solo performer with several recordings.

CARL NINIAN WIKA. VIOLIN. From Mosjøen where he has been involved in the Toppen staff for several years. He is studying violin at the University NTNU in Trondheim where he is concert master in the student orchestra and is playing freequently with the Trondheim Soloists. He is chairman of the Norwegian organization of youth orchestras and board member of Wold federation of amateur orchestras.

KRISTOFFER ALMÅS. Percussion. From Mosjøen. Has experience as an instructor in band, orchestra and various courses. He is currently a student at the Academy of Music.
