Dear participants of “Toppen Internasjonale Sommermusikkskole 2010”
Welcome to Toppenkurset 2010 – Every participant has to read this letter!
Thank you for signing up for Toppenkurset! This year we are celebrating our 10th year anniversary and the course is going to be slightly different than last year. The course will also take place at a new location; Sandvik Folkehøgskole. The school has great conditions and we will have a great time there! We are also very proud that Norsk ungdomssymfoniorkester will have their summer gathering here in Mosjøen and that we this year cooperate to make a magnificent course for you. In addition to all the Norwegian participants are there guests from Russia, Sweden, Iceland and Serbia. Also, our teachers are just as international as the participants!
This is our courses for Toppen 2010: Toppensymfonikerne: 2.- 6. August. Production conducted by Nicholas Carty Program:
P. Tsjaikovskij: Suite from The swan lake E. Grieg: Symphonic dances op. 64 Frode Fjellheim: “Solhjul” (the sheet music comes later) Ending concert 5th and 6th august in Mosjøen kulturhus and Herøy kirke.
Junior orchestra:
6th to 10th August Conducted by Trond Wika More information concerning repertoire coming later. From 8 to 13 years of age (depending on level). Ending concert August 10th.
Piano course:
6th to 10th August Piano courses on different levels, masterclasses, improvisation and ensembles. Ending concert 10th August
Mini courses:
In addition to these courses we can offer extra teachings between the orchestra/piano rehearsals. Registration for these courses will take place during the course. The only exception is the composing course because the instructor would like to know how far the participants have come. This will help him to make a constructive course.

You can print out your own sheets and start practising!! :D
It is important that everybody is as prepared as possible. There will also be some time scheduled for group rehearsals.
Pianists:
Bring your own sheet music on the pieces you wish to play. You can also send an E- post where you can write which pieces you are currently working on and your wishes for the course. If you wish to play chamber music we would like to know in good time. It will be interpretation and technique lessons.
Junior orchestra:
You will get sheet music on the first rehearsal. Practice the solo pieces you wish to play on the private lessons.
Private lessons and chamber music for orchestra musicians:
it will be offered private lessons during the course and itʼs important that you decide in advance what you wish to play for you teacher. There will also be open master classes for string, wind and piano. Some participants get sheet music, but we are also open to form some ensembles during the course. Remember to bring sheet music for solo works or chamber music you might want to play during the course or want to look on with your teacher. It will also be offered piano accompaniment, so remember to bring piano sheet music for your solo works!
Piano:
The piano students gets their own individual schedules. We encourage everyone to bring sheet music for 4 hands piano or two pianos Etc. if you want to play chamber music, you can propose works yourself and send them on E-mail to franziska@wika.no
The teaching will take place on Sandvik Folkehøgskole and there will be masterclass with the master pianist John Lill.
Mosjøen kulturhus also gets a new Steinway grand piano and there will be an opportunity to test the new grand piano for those who might want to.
Raymond Enoksen will also give a course in improvisation.
Folk music:
This yearʼs gathering for Rainbow Strings will take place during Toppen so there will be plenty of folk music. Under the energetic leadership of Maria Frolova will there be both new repertoire and a refreshment of known traditional tunes. On the barn dance will there be opportunities to play folk music in ensembles (other than Rainbow strings) or as a soloist.
Theory and composition:
Also this year we will offer theory and composition courses. There will be a list of those who wish to take part in these courses, but there will also be an opportunity to sign up when Toppen starts. Raymond Enoksen will be teaching these classes.
Course fee:
Instruction, accommodation and all meals: NOK: 500 a day
Private accommodation, instruction and all meals: NOK 400 a day
From second sibling: NOK 400 a day

The course will be officially opened Monday, August 2nd at noon (12:00), but the registration starts at 10:00 AM.
For the The junior orchestra and the pianists starts the registration at 10:00, August 6th. These courses starts at 12 noon. Please tell us when you will arrive in Mosjøen and we will arrange transportation to Sandvik folkehøgskole.
Food allergies and health:
We have received information about participants who are allergic to certain food types or participants who are vegetarian. The ones who havenʼt told us special needs in this field must e-mail us immediately. The kitchen needs to know this in good time. If there is any other health related issues we should be aware of we wish to know this before the course starts. Our instructors will be told everything they need to know.
Photoshoot:
We will take photos during the course and post them on our website. Those who donʼt want to be photographed must inform us about this.

To the participants at the "Toppen course 2009"
Welcome to Mosjøen 24th to 31th of July . The Toppen Summer Music Academy vil take place for the 9th time and the organizers Vefsn Youth Strings will also this year make their best that all of you feel well in Mosjøen. We have still place for some more participants For application click hereCompetitionIn 2009 we will have had a competition to play as soloist. MANY OFFERSWe can offer you a varying program where we will keep you busy from when you wake up in the morning till late at night. We can guarantee that none of you will go home without any great musical experiences and having made new friends. Apart from the orchestra rehearsals, individual lessons, theory, chamber music and improvisation, our daily concerts make the course a small music festival. Furthermore we put high priority on social activities. Our volunteers will give you a personal follow-up and are at your disposition to any questions you might have. As previously, there will be a “music tour” out the Vefsnfjord and to one of the beautiful places on the coast of Helgeland . ORCHESTRAAs you might have noticed, also this year we have hired the acknowledged conductor Nicholas Carthy as the leader for the youth symphony orchestra. As a parallel to the symphony orchestra, we have the junior orchestra which will also offer good challenges. If someone think that they have been placed in “the wrong” orchestra, that the music is too easy or too difficult, please let us know as quickly as possible.SHEET MUSICThe sheet music has been send in the middle of June. INDIVIDUAL LESSONS AND CHAMBER MUSIC Everyone will be offered individual lessons during the course. It is important that you decide in advance what you want to play for the teacher. Some of you have been sent sheet music for chamber music, but there is also a possibility to establish groups during the course. Remember to bring music for solo- and chamber music that you want instruction on. There will be possibilities to get piano accompaniment, so remember to bring piano sheet music for the solo pieces.
PIANO Most of the piano lessons will be held at the Mosjøen music high school and Vefsn cultural school this year because we haveaccess to more and better instruments. FOLK MUSIC
IMPROVISATION
THEORY Also this year we are offering theory divided in two groups based on knowledge. We will put up a list with those who have chosen theory lessons, but you will also be able to sign up at the start of the course. CHOIRAll participants will join the choir hour every day. Ncholas Carthy will conduct.COMPOSITION CLASSThis is a new offer for young composition students.SCHEDULE The schedule has been posted here on the website, but some changes might be made before the course starts.
